Is Michael Phelps really the greatest Olympian of all time? ?

I know he is great but he also competes in a sport where the athlete has the ability to win numerous amounts of medals because of all the different events involved in swimming.

Track has many events as well, yet no one has such a record there.  It is also possible to win a lot of medals in gymnastics.

Name another better Olympian.... 6 golds 4 years ago and 8 this time around is hard to argue against.  If it was easy for swimmers to compete and win 8 events in a single Olympics, he wouldn't be the first to do it and only the second to get 7.
