Is Microsoft Word better, (or just more expensive than) Works?

Question

It's just that creating databases seems a lot easier in Works than Word.

Works Suite incorporates limited versions of MS Word, Excel, and Access. It's adequate if you only doing simple applications. One the other hand, the full version of MS Word is a powerful desktop publisher. There is a huge difference between the two. I hope that helps. Good luck!

I used works on my husband's computer and liked it.  My new comp had word and VISTA (!@#$%) which only recognizes word ,I had to change that all over.  Otherwise I don't see a difference unless you want powerpoint presentations and other bells and whistles.  I liked XP way better because publisher came with it and I could go between the two.  Warning if you get VISTA don't go to the experts for help their answer is to wipe out the system and restart it.  And the disk backup doesn't work.  I've just lost everything for the second time in a year. Including pictures of my daughter being crowned fairest of the fair here this year.

Try downloading (genuinely free and legal) a copy of OpenOffice - virtually identical to MS Office.  It's a real office suite, including a good database program, which is much more capable than Works.  Mind you, if you're happy with Works, keep using it, there's no need to spend a lot of money on MS Office either way.

Microsoft Word is part of Microsoft Works, so expense should not come into the equation

I think you are referringg to the MS office application rather than just word. Yes it is more expensive but as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for". There is a reason ms works comes free with most new PC's..

If you are a student you may be able to pick up a cheep copy of office check with your IT techs they may be able to help you or google "office for students".

But over all the office application is a slicker more refinedeasierr to use application.... Microsoft have spent millions making it the number 1 busness software in the world...

Microsoft office 2003 and word is great microsoft office office and word 2007 is alright and openoffice.org is better than office 2007(openoffice is free)
