I'm planning to go to Japan, mainly Tokyo in February next year. Is this a good month to visit? And is Mt. Fuji far from Tokyo, any day trips or excursion to visit Mt.Fuji? Any onsen around Mt. Fuji?

Thank you

  1. It  is Winter to early Spring in February in Japan so that It is cold and snows sometimes. It is not good touring season even in Tokyo. If you are OK to being cold and windy, it  is not so busy everywhere so that it could  be one of merits for traveler.

You can reach the outskirts of Mt. Fuji called Gogo-meh

in Winter but can't climb without full equipped preparation during the season.

It takes about 3 hours to the outskirts of the mountain by bus or trains from Shinjuku, Tokyo unless heavy weather.

Most famous Onsen near Mt. Fuji is Hakone Onsen. Kowakien Yunessun Hot Spring resort is handy spot for foreigners.

  2. I would say latter in February. I went the beginning of April myself.

  3. It's a good month to visit Tokyo and to get a good view of Mt. Fuji.

Check "Fuji & Hakone" of this blog.

  4. I would recommend march or april, but late feburary isnt too bad. July and August is the time to avoid. And January is the coldest month but it hardly gets below freezing.

You can't climb fuji but you can go to the viewing areas and onsens around it. You can pretty much take a day trip from tokyo to see fuji and there are busses leaving from shinjuku.
