  1. I lived on Greek salad and fresh fruit!

  2. milos is very nice island and you will not have problem with the food.salade and fruits are very easy to be found

  3. They have vegetables & grains. Just avoid the fish.

  4. Anywhere you go in Greece, is not only vegetarian friendly but vegan friendly. The Greek orthodox fast is vegan so there are a couple of options... you may have to look around, but they are there!

  5. Don't let people discourage you.Greece is an amazing place to try different vegetables cooked with so much love and the olive oil that compliments every thing it touches.

Here are some vegetarian dishes to ask for.

Gemista [staffed tomato's and other vegetables with rice and herbs].

Okra in tomato sauce with potato's.

    Fried eggplant and zucchini

Green beans with tomato sauce and potatoes

A warm salad of different greens like 'radikia' served with olive oil and lemon juice

Lima beans in tomato sauce and dill

And so much more, but the best thing to do is ask what is the vegetable of the day and how it is cooked.

People are very well informed about all kinds of eating preferences and they try to accommodate.

One think to remember the tourist areas cater to the tourist,

look out and ask around for the places that local people eat and you will find many choices.

  6. Greece is one of the best places to be a vegetarian :

salads, feta, Briam (vegetables slow cooked in the oven with onions - a bit like ratatouille), tzaziki, hummus, aubergines - grilled/fried or made into a dip, chips, beans, rice, stuffed tomatoes and peppers, -there are loads of vegetarian dishes and mezze - more than I have listed.

  7. The Greeks are very big Fish and Lamb eaters and from experience vegetarians are looked down upon and the choices limited to salads (even fetta is not vegetarian in greece as vegetable rennet is non existent there).

so its plain salads and stuffed vine leaves and bean salads.

you can get by but don't expect an understanding waiter!
