I fancy going away between Christmas and New Year this year, and would like to go to Morocco. Does anybody have any suggestions on a which is the best part to visit? What sort of temperatures should I expect? Accommodation - ryad or hotel? Places of interest to visit? Thanks.

  1. Oukaimeden is an excellent skiing area 7o km from Marrakech.

If you prefer a city area, Marrakech is probably by  far the best for an introduction to Morocco. As it is further South it will be warmer, probably around 22 by day but much cooler at night. Marrakech benefits city shopping, tours, museums, gardens..... nearby (90 mins) is the seaside of Essaouira - a must to visit. See my other answers, there are many on Morocco.

I could tell you many lovely places to stay, but its better to do a search as you know what you are looking for

a Riadh can be as much as £800 for a group of 8 for the week, or as little as a 50 MAD (Moroccan Dirhams) per night  100 MAD = approx £7.

I often stay in a modest hotel - the Amalay which id ample for me - double bedded room for 350Dh the room, or the Diwane which is around £45 per double room per night.

Upmarket is the Andalous but its not really central (5 min taxi ride into the Djemaa El Fna)  or the Sofitel which is quite expensive but near to the main square.

There's innumerable restaurants, but also aMacDonald'ss and a KFC.

Also take a look on the travellers website for an abundance of information on Morocco at www.lonelyplanet.com  click on the thorn tree and enter Morocco in the search.

  3. You could also go to ouarzazate. It's the best winter desination. It's close to the Moroccan Sahara (about 200 miles), so it's not really cold. you should expect from 12 TO 26 degrees. But it's an amazing city, you should visit the "gorges de dades". There's a lot of big hotels like ''the berber palace'' but I prefer ryads.

    You'll like it. Enjoy
