Question:

Is My Dad Being Ridiculous Or Is It Just Me!?

My dad just turned 52 a few days ago and decided tomorrow he's getting his ear pierced. I couldn't help but laugh when my mom mentioned it because I just find it weird and a bit ridiculous. My dad claims he's always wanted to. My mom told me not to laugh and I think she even thinks it's weird but I guess she just wants him to be happy. What do you think?

  1. My dad said that for his 50th birthday he wanted to get butt implants.

And you say your dad is weird?

  2. Don't you know that we still try to embarrass you more and more as you get older? Seriously tho, what would you think your reaction would be if he laughed at something you chose to do? Wouldn't you think that, however amusing he might find it, really it was none of his business? It was up to you?

So what if he is 52? I have a friend who is a solicitor and appears in magistrates' and crown courts, has 4 grown-up children and wears an ear stud. To be honest, it suits him. Gives him something of piratical air. It certainly does not look silly or weird and ridiculous.

Try not to worry. If he does look weird or ridiculous, he will soon take it out of his own accord. Trust him. After all, don't you expect him to trust you? Put it in perspective. Aren't their more serious things in the world?

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

  3. At 52 he is probably thinking of all things he wanted to do when he was young but didn't. So from that list he thinks "well I can still pierce my ear".

It's much cheaper then the new sports car that many men get at that age, and it is much more moral then divorcing your mom for a 20 year old or having a fling with a 19 year old.

If that is what makes him happy, a simple ear piercing, smile and tell him he's cool, that will really make him even happier

  4. Sounds ridiculous to me... but he's probably just going through midlife crisis wand wants to feel young again. It could be worse girl.

  5. Mid life crisis. He is probably finally feeling is age, and he's trying to feel young again- maybe even hip. I suppose if it's okay with your mother and its something he sincerely wants then let him.

  6. Just be grateful that he's not going all out, bleaching his hair blonde and buying leather pants with a leather vest or something.  It's not a big deal.  Hopefully he won't want some big huge diamond sticking out of it:)

  7. He just wants too feel young.

just go along with it. treat it like its sooo cool and he will be happy.

maybe talk him into getting a tattoo just for kicks =]

  8. Gotta say......not a fan of guys getting ears pierced.....especially me.

If my dad did it.........would I be allowed to shoot him? lol

Hopefully your dad is winding you up. It's the sort of wind-up I would do to someone, so that's my best guess.

I don't think he will actually do it ;o)

  9. I think you should respect your dad. I doubt you would want anyone laughing at you for things they consider you do being silly.

  10. i think it's funny too! aww let him be. it's his midlife crisis :]
