Is My Fish Just Lonely?

Question

I have a Calico Goldfish named Freckles who has a huge bowl. He use to share it and swim around and play with his friend, a Fantail Goldfish, named Asia. Asia died, and now he isn't very active. All he likes to do is eat. Is there a problem with him, or is he just lonely so he eats?

I want to get another fish for him, but my mom won't let me and I don't get allowance so I have no money.

How can I help Freckles, and how can I talk my mom into giving me 3 dollars for a fish?

Goldfish love to be in communities, hence "community fish". He isn't necessarily lonely, but he is very inactive because other fish are not in the bowl with him. He obviously enjoys being around other fish. Fish cannot really mourn for one another because they do not have that type of emotion. Sometimes they can, but mostly not. I suggest you tell your mom that Freckles's life will be much happier and longer with another fish in the tank. Tell her how well you took care of them last time and that it will be no different now. Trust me, if you are going to give her a promise like this you have to stick to it. Just because it works doesn't mean that you don't need to do what you said. Freckles will live a much better and happier life if there is another goldfish in the tank, I guarantee it. If you can't get the money offer to clean the house for her. It's not too hard and may work.

Ask some of your friends who has rear fishes. I am sure if their parents hear about your plight, they will gladly spare some fishes for you. I would do so if I rear fishes at home.Try it out, you will be surprise.

with no other fish in there, he has nothing to do except eat when the food is there for him!

Are you sure you HAVE to get another fancy goldfish. why not get a regular, 11 cent one in the meantime, to keep Freckles company. You don't even need to save up for that one, you can probably just find the money on the ground at the mall or something.

your fish just need a time to move on because even humans needs to move on wenever someone has died.. fishes have feelings too.. but if necessary, buy your gold fish another fish so that he can have a friend,, well,before, i used to have a gold fish pet too but because of the size of the bowl, they died..

Yes he's lonely. Goldfish are community fish. You see ponds full of koi and goldfish? There are tons of them. They thrive on company.

Explain to your mom that they need someone in there with them. He my die alone.

HE isint lonely, hes just inactive. Also, try getting a tank instead of a bowl. Fancy goldfish grow HUGE. You just never see thewm grow huge because most people kill them before they mature because they think they can live in bowls. You can get the 3 dollars by asking your mom to do stuff around the house i guess.

wow you have a 20 gallon+ bowl because this is the minimum for a fancy goldfish

unless your bowl holds 30 gallons dont get another fish

if your bowl is suitable

tell your mum that goldfish are schooling fish (even though there not) and readily die when not kept in groups of 2+
