Is NBC showing the Beijing 2008 opening ceremonies live?

I saw the NBC Schedule and the tv broadcast of the opening ceremonies for the Beijing 2008 are for friday the 8th of august from 730 pm to 12am ( saturday ) thats not live . Given the time differential from new york to Beijing live should be late thursday or early friday

  1. No. I think NBC made a bad choice of not broadcasting the opening ceremonies live at 8:00 a.m EST Friday. NBC will broadcast it 5:00 pm EST which is pretty stupid.

  4. It's not live. This is NBC tradition. They paid a fortune for the TV rights in US. So they don't want to show it in some ungodly hours when no one is watching. Every Olympic opening ceremony (except those in US) on NBC was taped so that it can be shown during the prime time. Even in '96 when the Game was held at Atlanta, NBC taped most events through that Game, including the dramatic win by the US women's gymnastic team.

    Expect to see more like this throughout the Game.
