Is NZ "provincial" and "pastoral" or as busy and modern as any modern "european" country?

I know nothing about it save the fact that for every person there are 13 sheep. Australia gets all the press. While I'm on the subject, why didn't it form a common government with Australia. They're both so close and they're both evolved from the UK.

  1. NZ isn't much different from Oz or the UK. Or many western countries really. Yes, we do have a lot of sheep but currently dairy farming is where the money is. There have been casual talks about forming a common government but I doubt if there would be much  advantage for Oz - more for NZ.
