Is Nab cup needed by the players ??

Especially if they get injuries prior to the "Real" games.

It's starting to look like dis-interest by the players, and a case of they have to play nab, "so we will get it over with quickly."

  1. I agree 100% with Chooka.

I am an Adelaide Crows fan and will be going to the match on Saturday, but I will also be praying that none of the players from EITHER team (yes Brooce, either team!!) aren't injured.

Whoever wins I'm sure it won't really mean that much, not many bragging rights i'm afraid.

Plus the 36 deg + temp is gonna be pretty draining on the players too!!

  2. i don't really think it is needed. I'm a mad collingwood supporter and im glade we went out first round. most teams rest their good players anyway so to them i quess the NAB cup isn't all that important.

  3. Jemima, i think the nab cup is just glorified practice games, it only helps to show the new players off and give them a bit of match practice. i say scrap it and play each other twice, its the only way to have a truly even comp, but all Vic clubs should be made to play interstate clubs away too, there a few who never travel, 2-3 times is not fair, whilst others go 5 times.

  4. itz kinda ridiculous that they do nab cup

they culd just do one match against each clubs rivalries for the members to watch and renew.

The injury rate is just crazy

plus theres no lyk severe penalties cos itz not the actual thing

    poor players

  5. no i think they should get rid of it

  6. Suppose it's a case of each club showing off their players, and giving them a bit of exercise.

I wonder how the individual clubs gain from the NAB sponsorship.

The Paul Roos story could throw a bit of light on match fixing.

It used to be a big deal years ago, but not any more, for the simple fact that players are not only sportspeople, but business people trying to build a big bank balance.

    Everything is now money driven.

  7. no its needed by the afl to create revenue, most the clubs dont really like it.

  8. It's more so they can see how the young guys from the previous year are going and what the rookies can do at senior level.

Injuries are always a worry in NAB Cup games you can loose good players for the season because of it. We (hawks) lost a young player who was doing good in the NAB, pity too cause we could have used him in regular season.

Its needed by the coaches to take a look at the younger guys and new game plans, and to get a bit of match fitness into the senior guys too.

  9. It's a nice warm-up to the season. It gives them a chance to try new things rules-wise (can you imagine trying out new rules during the season?!?!), and it's a nice way to give the new guys a chance and see what they've got up against the other teams in a forum where it doesn't really count for anything.

Sure you get some injuries and stuff, but you get that in training too, cest la vie.

I think the NAB Cup/Challenge is a good thing. It's nice to have the pre-season to ease all the boys into the competition again, give us something to occupy ourselves in the month prior to the home-and-away season, and try out new things and new players =)

  10. No it isn't now Paul Haselby, Mitchell Brown and Beau Muston are all out for what looks like a year without even playing a game in the real season.

I don't have any interest what so ever in the Nab Cub and if the Eagles where there I would feel like they had jinxed themselves before the season started.

  11. They should get rid of it and just play trial games like the Rugby Super 14 and Rugby League. I think Paul Roos summed up what most coaches think of the NAB Cup.

Note it was difficult to admit that the other codes do something better than the AFL.
