I've always wondered when Napolean Dynamite tastes the milk for the 4H competition is that a real event? If it is, what do you commonly encounter in it? I've lived in the suburbs my whole like, until earlier this year I thought veal came from young dairy cows.

  1. Each FFA chapter has a variety of different judging teams.  Milk Production, Agronomy, Livestock,  Wildlife are just a few of the judging teams to join.

Each team consisnts of 4 judgers.  Samples are set up of a variety of defunked milks.  For example: Cows sometimes eat wild onions and the milk with have an oniony taste.

Competitions are held for local, districts, state and national levels.  Winners of national competitions can win scholarship money.

You got to really love milk to taste some of these unearthly creations from the cow. :)

  2. Yes, judging the quality of dairy products is a real event in FFA skills competition.  Milk quality (taste) can be affected by the feed that a cow eats.  Identifying the causes of poor quality is an important skill in the dairy industry.

FFA originally stood for Future Farmers of America, but now the organization has dropped that name.  FFA just stands for FFA now--it is an organization for young people who are interested in agricultural science.  FFA is usually sponsored by the local school district.  4H is a similar program that is administered outside of schools--usually by the state extension service.  4H has the agricultural component as well as other youth leadership and skills development programs.

  3. LOL...I love that scene!  Yes it is similar to some of the judging events that FFA members do.  They are called CDE (career development events). They learn in several different areas, including meats (yes they look at real pieces of meat before it is cut and wrapped and have to know what cut it is and even what species it is!) all the way to interviewing and even create a mock marketing /sales campaign for agriculture products.

It is a lot of work and a lot of fun!

  4. yes, what the cow does/did puts chemicals in its body and can change the color/taste of the milk

  5. Did I miss something?  I believe veal does typically come from young dairy cows.  The calves don't absolutely have to be a dairy breed, but they typically are.

  6. LOL...there are brown cows that give chocolate milk too! Trust me, it is true!!

  7. ewwww that part was so disgusting i pray for the napolean guy that it wasnt : )
