Question:

Is Nascar about to disappear?

The vacancy rate in the stands last weekend was stunning. Why don't they lower the prices, or at least hire extras to appear like avid fans can still afford to attend their races?

  1. yes

  2. NO!!!  What race were YOU watching?  There was not an empty seat in the house unless you counted the ones where they were standing up instead of actually sitting in them.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  3. Can you say sellout.  First night race was a sellout, what were you watching?

  4. Let me look into my crystal ball.  Hmmmm. Nope it will not disappear.

The crystal ball also says the empty seats are just an illusion.  The reason why seats look empty at times is a lot of people get up to get a beer at a Nascar race, therefore creating the visual effect of empty seating.

  5. Because of the high fuel costs, that is why there is a less attendance at certain tracks.

    Some still sellout.

But hey on the bright side...TV ratings have gone up from last year...so this sport is still going strong.

  6. theyll lose money if they lower prices and it wasnt quite a sellout but close

  7. What race were you watching?

cuz the race i watched was SOLD OUT!

Nascar is no where near about to disappear..if anything it's getting bigger! =]

  8. No

  9. Nope. The reason for the vacancy in the stands is GAS prices. Even if NASCAR is suffering from lack of people in the stands, they can make up for it in television viewers. The empty seats are probably people that would have had to come from out of state.

  10. I don't know what race you were watching but the one I watched was sold out!! and NO Nascar isn't going to disappear!!

  11. 1 bad year does not put something as big as NASCAR out of business.  Does NASCAR even control the track ticket pricing?  I would imagine hiring people to sit in the stands would be even more expensive.  You might as well give tickets away like some other sports do.

In case you missed it the economy is not doing so well.  With high food, gas, electric, etc prices everything is suffering.

  12. no, if anything it will get bigger

  13. NASCAR is the 2nd most popular sport in American. It's not going anywhere.

FYI Chicagoland was a sellout & the week before at Daytona, there were as many tickets sold this year as were sold last year.

  14. God, I hope not.

  15. God I hope so.  Kill it

  16. are you sure you weren't watching the nationwide race, or even the IRL race for that matter. It was on at the same time as the cup race and those stands were EMPTY

  17. vacancy rate in Chicagoland? Reported sellout...

  18. last race was the first sold out crowd in weeks. But at other tracks the crowds are shrinking. But this, in a way, is a good thing. Now the TV Ratings are gonna go "through the roof" as Bob Margolis said on Yahoo Sports Coverage of NASCAR. Don't look for it to be gone very soon.

  19. Once Bush is out of pffice the seats willl be filled due to the economy.

  20. well alot of it deals with the economy, the type of track, and which series   gas prices are rediculous and alot of people can't afford to go to a nascar race anymore   the type of track and its placement is also involved, look at Dover (iv been there)the placement sucks, but still a good racetrack  who the heck goes to Deleware or Whatken's Glen (New York) for a southern sport???  and then the series is involved cause like most fans, im more into the sprint cup racing, at richmond, you only sell out on the cup races, not the nationwide races   and not to mention the other factor of weather, people don't want to sit in the stands for a three to five hour long race in the heat, humidy, or rain

    no nascar cannot dissapear

  21. they are trying to compensate for the high gas and ticket prices by offering weekend packages for fans who can still afford them. i think it includes some three race things and hotel coupons, free refreshments, bla blah. but i do believe chicago was sold out.

  22. Ridiculous change in the points sytstem that allows a driver who does the best in the last 5 races of the season to win a championship for a 36 race season; repaving and widening tracks/; the crappy COT. These are just a a few reasons. NASCAR is not what it used to be, it's just not as much fun. Whrn Jeff Gordon retires, I am through with it.
