Is Nastia Liukin too old to be a gymnast?

I'm just wondering. When do girls like Nastia Liukin quit gymnastics? I mean, I know there's a certain age limit to compete but does the age limit end to stop competing? She's only 18 years old, but there is girls who are younger but is there any older girls? I'm sort of confused...

That Oksana woman from Germany was 33 and got a silver in the vault, and they showed this 35 year old Bulgarian man doing pommel horse, so I'm sure she's quite young.

I asked a question about this and I got the general impression that gymnasts are at their peak in their mid-teens, and stop competing in their early twenties because gymnastics is an extremely rigorous and demanding sport that requires a lot of dedication.

she's not too old... there's a 38 year old that competed

theres no age limit, shes really good. and as long as shes really good, she can compete

Absolutely not; colleges have gymnastics teams, and those girls are mostly over 18.

well there was that one russian lady who was almsot forty and she was still competing. there's no absolute rule of when a guymnast STOPS competing, it depends on their desire to continue training, and obviously the wear and tear it puts on their bodies. nearly all professional competing gymnasts like that usually quit because of too many injuries etc. by the time they're thirty five or so.

You need to be 16 in an Olympic year to compete, up from 14, so she is part of the average age group. The oldest competitor this year is 33, Oksana Chutsovitina, which is still a bit of an oddity. They raised the age level to try and maintain some physical health that was being threatened in 13 and 14 year olds. There is no age limit.
