  1. Not more of this "neutral accent" stuff!

    Most linguists believe that there is no such thing as a "neutral accent." It's a bigoted idea! Every form of speech contains accent. To say that one of these is "neutral" is to assume it is somehow superior to other accents. But all speech has an accent!

There is no such thing as a perfectly neutral accent.  You would still have a general accent from the country where you were from.  While someone from the midwestern USA (generally thought to be one of the most neutral accents) would not have a strong regional dialect, they would still have an American accent.  Likewise with British english - some of the accents are easier to understand than others and say less about where a person is from, but most people would still be able to tell that they were from somewhere in the UK.

    Accents are part of cultural identity and are of course important for making impressions, but speaking clearly should suffice in most cases.  Proper grammar is much more important, IMHO
