Is New York City Even Worth It?

Clearly, I've been watching too much Friends and s*x and the City, because I've been looking at a lot neighborhoods on Google Earth, and areas of Brooklyn and Queens that I've been told are the "nicer" areas look run down to me. And I hear everyone on here saying how expensive New York City is and how even living in a middle class area in Brooklyn will drain your money away. Also, most of New York City is owned by landlords meaning you have to pay rent in a lot of places. Manhatten seems to be awfully nice, but other than that, not so nice.

I live in Toronto, and I think it's the same type of city just on a smaller scale and less expensive. So I think maybe I'll stick around here.

So, for the residents, do you think New York City is worth it?

1) Yes, you do watch way too much Friends and s*x in the CIty. NOBODY in new york lives like that aside from the rich.

2) Naw, i lived here my whole life and i think its too d**n expensive, but thats mostly because of all the Midwesterners movin in and driving up prices.

Basically it costs this much because soo many people wanna come here and be like s*x and the city. which i think is disgusting

You are going to judge a part of the world by your experience from Google earth?

Maybe you should get out and visit the world for a change.

I've been to many cities, in North America, the US and Asia. NYC, while in the past had more soul, still is one of the most vibrant cities on the planet.

Trust me NYC is NOTHING like Toronto. Toronto is a bland, generic city with no personality or soul. Toronto is so bland and generic it is usually used as a movie set for another city. You really should try to get out and see the world it would do you a world of good. I would start with Montreal. It's not too far, and a fun city to boot with it's own personality.

New york is nothing like Friends or s*x and the City.

I think that it is the greatest city in the World, but it is not for everyone.
