Wikipedia says it is technically part of the continent of Zealandia.....but do most people consider it part of the Australian continent. Especially interested in hearing from anyone who lives in New Zealand or Australia.

  1. If I were you I wouldn't tell any Australians or New Zealanders that New Zealand is part of Australia!!!!

Your chances of getting out alive would be very slim indeed :-)

  2. It does not say that.  It says "New Zealand is Not part of the continent of Australia.... but is part of a submerged continent called Zealandia".   This is a ridiculous statement.  Submerged continent is a meaningless term that could include anything you want to include.

New Zealand is a group of islands, Australia is a continent. Sometimes, when islands are part of the same continental plate as a continent, they are considered part of the continent.  Or when islands are part of a country on the continent they may be considered part of the continent.

New Zealand is neither of these.  It is geologically and politically separate from Australia.

  3. a part of the continent Oceania

  4. Australia is not a continent. Oceania is a continent, and New Zealand makes part of it.

  5. No, it's not. It's part of the Oceanic Region, which Australia is in as well. We have an agreement, just like the EU, and Australians and New Zealanders can pass between each others countries without visa's... but we have different currencies, different laws and different governments. They are by far each others closest allies, but they aren't the same country.
