Is Newcastle Upon Tyne a nice city to live in?

We're moving. My wife and I are wedding photographers and are planning to set up our business in Newcastle. We'd like to live in a nice quiet, safe area with good public transport, cheap housing (if there's such a thing) and things to do/see. Interested in hiking, photography, nature, art and history.

  1. Hi, it is a fantastic place to live but live outside the centre, somewhere like Jesmond, Ponteland or Kenton

  2. we stay in preston village in north shields and its very safe and quite.About 8 miles to town center and 1 mile to the beach.

Other good places are tynemouth , whitley bay , monkseaton , gosforth.

  3. Newcastle upon Tyne is a lovely place to live.  I don't know about cheap housing (does that even exist in todays climate!), but if you can live near a metro station which cover a massive ground, you can get anywhere.

Even if you have to get a metro to get to the City Centre and proceed from the bus station to go further afield for sight seeing.

You will be spoilt for choice for hiking and photography.

There are many nice places to live in as already mentioned by the above plus more.  Places to avoid will be Benwell, because it is taken over by ethnics..... Fenham, Sandyford and most parts of Jesmond, because its taken over by students.

Just remember to live within the metro system and you will be set up for your business and interests.

    Good luck!

  4. if you move to a nice area you should be fine. but try and stay out of the city
