  1. Interestingly, the BGLOD (big green light of death) problem was acknowledged by Nikon, who provides free repair for any D70 that exhibits that problem.  I have two D70's and have had no problems at all.  They, and the other Nikons I use have been rock-solid and dependable.    Nikon will repair your D70 for this defect, no matter is the camera is in warranty or not.

You're basing "Nikon going downhill" on a camera that was introduced in April of 2004.  The defect affected only some D70's and was recognized and fully supported by Nikon in an ongoing recall.  I think that's extremely supportive of their photographer base and very professional.

Your D70 is a 5 year old camera.  Think about a 5 year old computer.  is it slower and less convenient than the newest models?  Of course!

My D70 is currently sitting in a bag, as newer Nikons are taking it's place when I'm on assignment.  If you think Nikon's going downhill, then there are many who are willing to hitch a ride.  Give me a D3, D300, or the upcoming D90, anytime.

Canon does make an excellent product, and I admire their lenses and their supporters.  But don't put Nikon into the second or third tier of cameras.  It's earned and definitely deserves better.

  2. Go with Canon. You'll be more satisfied. =)

  3. I have been using Nikon since the 70's. I have am FM, FA, F2, now a D40 and most recently a D300. I do not think that it is. As stated above go to Nikon or Nikonians.com and research this. Its a well known problem that Nikon has worked hard to make right for folks. They have a good problem but any product can have a glitch or a bad run. The test is in the customer support. Let them know its the second time with it I feel sure they will make things right for you one way or another

  4. Why, I don't know. What did you do to it in the first place?
