Is OCD the same as a mental illness?

I thought it was just a disorder. Or is a disordert the same as a mental illness?

  1. It's a mental illness, my friends brother has that. You become so obsessive on things being perfect and life being perfect that when something goes wrong, you lose it and you can't deal with it. It can be suicidal at times.

  3. Classifying things just makes them seem more freaky. Yes its to do with the mind therefore mental - illness. But why must we get so hung up on things?

  7. To me, it's considered a disorder because basically it is the brains wiring that causes it, the brain misfires and then the person gets stuck in the thought or compulsion. They can't help it.
