  1. The issue is not "g*y marriage"... the issue is whether or not to change the LEGAL DEFINITION of marriage.

Obama thinks the current legal definition is outdated, and McCain wants the law to remain unchanged.

  2. They're both against it. Obama is ok with Civil Unions though.

  3. Both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain have expressed their opposition to marriage rights for g*y and L*****n couples. They have taken a slightly different approach in explaining their position, however.

Sen. Obama emphasizes that while he is against granting g*y unions the title of "marriage", that these civil unions ought to entitle the same legal rights and benefits as a heterosexual marriage would. Sen. Obama opposes a Federal Marriage Amendment in the US Constitution.

Sen. McCain has stated his opposition to g*y marriage on a personal level, but also, unlike some in his party, opposes a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, effectively banning g*y marriage on the federal level. He says that he opposes this because he is a "federalist", and believes that the states should have the right to make their own laws on this matter. However, he has also said that if there was a court ruling that attempted to implement g*y marriage nationwide that he may then support a Constitutional marriage amendment.

  4. Both of them are against g*y marriage.

  5. Obama wants to marry Larry Sinclair.

  6. They like each other, but they are already married to other people.

  7. McCain believes that this should be an issue left up to the states, and not something in which the federal government should be involved.  This is how it usually works with any type of "living arrangement" (or, common law marriage, if you will) and traditional marriages.

Obama, from what I know, thinks that the current laws we have for this type of union are fine.

  8. Sadly they are both against it.

  9. Both are against g*y marriage.

Obama is for civil unions and McCain is not.

  10. They are both against g*y marriage and both agree that same s*x partners should receive the same benefits as a traditional married couple.

  11. LGBT issues

From the debate over same-s*x marriage to the military's "Don't ask, don't tell policy," issues that affect the L*****n, g*y, bisexual and trangender (LGBT) community look to play a prominent role in this year's presidential election.

    REPUBLICANS

    John McCain

Believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. Voted for the Defense of Marriage Act but voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. Says states and local governments should set their own marriage policies

Voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 1996. During an interview in 2000, McCain said: "I think that the present laws that clearly prevent a discrimination of any kind certainly [apply] to g**s and homosexuals as well. That's why I voted the way that I did. I think that enforcement of existing law could work rather than passing special laws for special categories of people."

When asked about the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, McCain said: "...I don't think there's any doubt that there are evolving attitudes in America about many issues, including this one, but every military leader that I talk to, I say 'Should we change it?' They say, 'It's working.' And right now we've got the best military we've ever had -- the most professional, best trained, equipped and the bravest. And so I think it's logical to leave this issue alone. I really do."

The McCain campaign states that g*y adoption is a state issue and does not endorse any federal legislation.  Watch McCain speak about same-s*x marriage

    DEMOCRATS

    Barack Obama

Opposes same-s*x marriage, but also opposes a constitutional ban. Says he would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. As stated on the Obama campaign Web site, he supports full civil unions that "give same-s*x couples equal legal rights and privileges as married couples, including the right to assist their loved ones in times of emergency as well as equal health insurance, employment benefits, and property and adoption rights."

Says the Employment Non-Discrimination Act should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Advocated legislation that sought to expand federal hate crimes law to include sexual orientation and gender identity.

Says the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy needs to be repealed.

  12. Obama: g*y rights, unions and benefits etc

McCain: No on all the above and marriage

  13. That should be an issue solved by the people not by the government.

  14. McCain says its up for the states to decide, so I'm not sure how he feels about it personally.  Obama is probably for it, as he is for killing innocent babies.

  15. Both are against g*y marriage as all sane people should be.

  16. LOL, Republicans are against g*y marriage, unless you count the Log Cabin Republicans. http://www.logcabinrepublicans.com - however, they're not a huge group. Kinda like Hip Hop Republicans http://www.hiphoprepublicans.com I believe the term is oxymoron?

  17. Both against it ..
