  1. Olympic is very precise, and street fighting is best done in any manner possible that ensures your safety.

Best fighting style for a street fight is a mixture between boxing and ninjitsu, straight but effective punches mixed with dirty fighting that seeks to win any way possible (ninjitsu).

  2. Yes, 9 out of 10 times in the street you will face a drunk or some bully with no formal training. You can watch Kimbo Slice fight on youtube. In the UFC, Kimbo had a hard time winning against handpicked opponents. In the street, he won easily. People in the street don't know how to fight. You can defend yourself in the street but you won't do well in the Octagon.

  3. It can be very affective just as long as you exclude the olympic rules that are enforced in the olympics. What people should remember, is that TDD also teaches punches as well as kicks.

So just as long as you're ready to apply everything you're taught in TKD, and know what to use effectively in a street fight, you'll be fine.

  4. You will have an advantage over most street fighters.

  5. yeah you just have to know how to use the kicks, i know for a fact that it works and againtst multiyple opponents as well, street it will work cause your keeping the fist away from you by using your legs and reach

  6. Your first mistake is learning TKD...it is a sport about competition and not a real martial art any more.

Secondly...to answer your question in a short phrase...No, it is not good for real like self defense.

  7. its all good sandman.

  8. specially olympic style NO. but usually or maybe i'll say hopefully they'll teach both at the same school olympics if you want to compete and real self defense applications

  9. It work's for me. Tae Kwon Do was the first martial art I ever took. For a while it was the only one I knew and it always worked for me in a fight. That was when I just took competition TKD (what you're taking). Now I take one of the original kwans (Chung Do Kwan) and it's not watered down for competition and can get pretty rough.

  10. Any martial art will help on the streets, as long as youre good enough, and by good enough i mean it has to become like a second nature to bust out with some tkd, without thinking, because in a real fight, it's who has more heart, who is more of a beast, gotta be tough, quick and smart, and also in a street fight, you cannot be the passive one like you can be in tournaments, it's more of a krazy wild fight and anything goes.

  11. Tae kwon do is not the best martial art for self defense. It gets you in really good shape, though. Maybe try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
