They are one of the least expensive an cheaply made lenses out there.  They make mostly "add-on" lenses for P&S cameras, but some rockbottom, low cost lenses for SLR's too.

One cool this is they make the old right angle "spy" lens adapter ... very retro

Another lens companies in that class of lens are the FotoDiox, Zenitar, Opteka and others you may have never heard of.  

The more common third party lenses are the old (no longer in production) Soligar and Vivitar and current Tamron, Sigma's and Tokina's.

With lenses, you get what you pay for. Better to go with Sigma or Tamron if you can't afford the camera manufacturer's best glass.
