Question:

Is Ottawa to be back...again?

Read a rumour that the Ottawa 67s owner is near to signing an agreement to return the CFL to Ottawa...again.

First off, can anyone confirm or deny said rumour?

Second, any thoughts?

The previous two Ottawa attempts both blew up due to poor ownership situations, in the end...the fans may not have been supporting in full force, but with the front office disasaters that were such mammoth names as Horn Chen and/or the Gliebermans (forgive the spelling on that one), who could blame them. We have seen just how solid ownership has turned around the fortunes of the good ship Argonaut...could it happen in Ottawa as well?

  1. Awesome!!!!  Grey Cup victory in Ottawa in 2011!!!!!!

  2. Supposedly true, this time they have someone who knows how to make a franchise work, and as the Ottawa Senators have proven the Capital can support a major league franchise again, even the Sens were touch and go for awhile. They'll have to put a winning team on the field though, Ottawa has been the team that's gone the longest without a Grey Cup win, even longer than Montreal which went without a team for a stretch as well.

Hopefully they'll either get the Rough Riders name back (over 100 years of history, plus the Montreal franchise got the Alouettes name back, twice) and forget that lousy Renegades experiment, or pick a new name for a fresh start. How much history does a name connected with a four year failed franchise with no post season success have?

I also hope that the news soon follows that they will finally announce another team for the East, such as Quebec City, Halifax, Moncton or Windsor/Detroit, to finally rebalance the league and bring in some new money. The league needs to grow not contract.

  3. hope so, but where will they play? aren't they tearing down frank clair?

  4. probably not this year

  5. Money talks and BS walks....I'll believe it when it happens.

  6. Possible..

  7. Once the deal has been signed then the gossip will end...until that time gossip is all it is

  8. If they take a hint from Montreal and use one of the smaller stadiums and make the game truly Ottawa it would be good to have them back.

  9. I've read at the Earliest 2010 season.  This is because Frank Clair Stadium needs some work, and they would most likely need a whole new stadium all together.  What I would like to know is if they will be the renegades or the roughriders or some other name, and when the CFL will expand and get some teams in Halifax, Quebec City, London, Windsor/Detroit and Saskatoon.

  10. As long as Chen and the Glibermans stay away, football in Ottawa can work.

  11. yep they will be back 2010

but dont worry, they will be gone by 2011

  12. yes they are returning to ottowa in 2 years.

  13. Well, it's more than a rumour, it's in the news here in Canada. eg. The Globe & Mail - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/s...

But yes, until a deal is signed and an official annoucement from the league, agree, a rumour.

Yes, the Glibergoofs and Chen didn't know how to connect with the fans.  Ottawa deserves owners the fans can be confident in aren't fly-by-nighters, along the lines of Eugene Melynk with Sens.
