Question:

Is PEGI legally obliging?

I found out somewhere that PEGI isn't backed up by the law meaning you can buy PEGI games rated above your age. I want to prove this to my local game store and can't think of a way without actually getting a signed document from PEGI. Any ideas?

  2. It's not law, it's a system of classification which is voluntary for games publishers. However, if your intent is to try and make the game store sell you a game which is PEGI rated above your age you will fail; the store is not legally required to sell you a game: the system is there to help parents make decisions about what games to allow their children to play and a responsible retailer will not sell you a game with a rating higher than your age, regardless of the legalities of the rating system.
