  1. It depends what you're doing. I'm sure there are some jobs in the prision system where you have no contact with prisoners. It all depends what job you're doing and how well you can ignore verbal abuse.

  2. I work in a jail but I would never work in a prison.  The biggest reason is money.  I make more as a 5 year county officer than ten year state prison sergeants do.

  3. I did it for a while and hated it even though i was in construction dept. Of course i was in a state hospital for the criminally insane so that might be worse.

Also have a brother who worked LA county for 8 years. He had p**p and pee thrown on him, was spit at and on and he was one of the guards the prisoners didnt mess with or so i was told LOL. Once had to remove a guy from his cell who had covered himself in excrement to make it more fun.

Hope this helps. Oh the DOC guards at the hospital were bored but happy. They guard outside the fence so have little to no prisoner contact.

  4. No way!

  5. it is if your a prisoner

  6. If you are an even tempered person who does not anger easily, you may like it. You will find a lot of the stress is not from convicts but administration staff who are incredibly backstabbing and political. Pay is average and benefits are good. If you need the job take it but try to get an education in something you would really like to do and move on. Good luck

  7. It is not a job for the weak hearted.
