We all parent differently. IT does not make us bad parents, just different parents. My neighbors raise their children different from how I raise mine. It;s just something we live with and respect in each other. As for what her children have or may have done....Are you a parent? Your children never do things you have told them and taught them not to?

I would be mortified to find out that my teem was having s*x when I have taught her better, never mind if she came to me and told me she was pregnant. I would, however, from that point forward have no option other than to do as Palin has. And that would be to support her in her decision.

I would n't say she's a complete failure as a mom, but I question some one who is running for office who does not know what her 17 year old is up to. I have a degree in accounting. I live so far out of the city that is is not worth driving shelling out 150 a week in gas.Plus what is taken out in taxes, and I don't get home till 8:00 or 9:00 pm. My husband works at night so I have to be home. I work at Mc Donalds as a cashier. I refused management offers 4 times in 7 months. I have 1 6 th grader in band at one school and one 9th grader in Navy JRROTC one county over because the high school sucks where we live. No child left behind did not work in Folkston Ga. I am cashier at Mc Donalds for now. I get the hours I want, I don't work the weekends or nights. I know where my kids are and what they are up to and who they hang out with! When my kids graduate then I will go back out into my profession.Until then I know where my kids are who the hang out with and what they are going.Palin obviously does not. If she can't keep up with a seventeen year old how is she going to keep up with the Russians or Iran.

I think she is being used. If McCain dies in office the government will have a field day with her. What ever BS they come up with she'll believe and we'll get into another unnecessary war.If she wants to serve her children up in an unjust war thats her prerogative, I don't. My daughter is begining her military career already.I support my daughter all the way I won't vote for an administration who sacrifices our sons and daughters for unjust causes. Also, I think it is a slap in my face as  a women that the republicans think I'm stupid enough to vote for McCain just because he put a female on the ticket. He met her one time and this could be the leader of the free world? This  independent vote just went to Obama even though I am not pro choice. I am a gun supporter. I got car jacked at gun point last year so, I have a permit to carry a weapon to defend myself.I am conservative in some issues but I WILL NOT  VOTE FOR THIS REPUBLICAN TICKET!

I'm a democrat and I say that she is doing a good job with her daughter. She obviously cares for her and didn't want her daughters pregnancy issue to become a big deal in the news. I feel so sorry for her daughter. that must be so embarrassing to have your face on the news a lot and especially for that.

Unfit how??? I did not see Biden give up his political career when his wife was killed in an auto accident...I thought America had mobved past the "barefoot and pregnant" concept of women. This is a 2 parent household...i thought liberals were for EQUAL rights for all. Having had a downs syndrome baby and leaving it in her 17 yo daughters care might be questionable but moms across America work and have families sucessfully.  She won't have much time for her family if elected but that is her choice.  I wish my mom had been the quality of person who could raise a family AND be selected to run for an important office.

What makes her an unfit mother, the right wingers ask?  How about this:  she just gave birth to a child with Down Syndrome, a child who will need special care that the mother will be far too busy to provide.

And--knowing her 17-year-old, unwed daughter is pregnant, she accepted McCain's nomination, when she knew her family would come under media scrutiny and there was no way this would not become known.  Even if the story hadn't broken now, the girl will be hugely pregnant at the time of the election.  Where we they planning on hiding her?  What mother willingly subjects her daughter to this?  A good mother puts her children first.  Clearly, Mrs. Palin has not done that.  

So, yes, she's unfit, but this would not be as big a story as it is if the GOP weren't always carrying on like they have the copyright on morality.  They asked for this and they deserve all the criticism they are getting.  

Just imagine if Chelsey Clinton had shown up pregnant at the convention in 1992.  The holier-than-thou crowd would have had a field day.  

Edit:  You call this "standing by her daughter" when the whole WORLD knows she's unmarried and pregnant?  Wow.  Maybe she'll stand by her and put video of the birth on youtube as well. What a great mom.

Yes. She has a daughter thrust into the spotlight at 17 who is pregnent and needs taking care of alone with four other children. How is she supposed to take care of the country if McCain dies? Plus she also is saying that her daughter and boyfriend planned to get married which I doubt. So now she's probably forcing her daughter into getting married just to she can stay "politically correct." I don't like it.

Just a thought...she may feel that she can handle all of her children's needs, plus her grandchild, plus a handicapped child, but she will get bogged down and her attention will not be where it should be, either on her kids, or her country.  That is the reality of being a woman multitasking.

I think she's a good mom. Even the "bad kid" 17-yr-old who is pregnant is taking adult responsibility for her choice and is even happy to care for her young brother while mom works. If that is unfit then I would love to see more "unfit" families like this one - taking responsibility and helping each other. And why does everyone seem to dis the dad? He's a parent too. I thought liberals were all for equality in the sexes. He seems like a capable guy who can drive his kid to the dr. office and therapy appts. On the contrary. She stands by her daughter and doesn't appear to be "unfit" in any way. The accomplishments of this woman are amazing, and the fact that she has 5 children only adds to her credibility.

She does have a husband.   They are his kids, too.  A lot of American women raise kids and have full time jobs - and they are single.  Her children look clean, well fed and clothed, and they attend school like they should.  What is unfit about this?
