Panajachel is a town aroun one of the most beautiful lakes in the world: LAGO ATITLAN.  You´ll LOVE IT!!! It´s a GORGEOUS lake, surrounded by volcanoes, a truly mistical place.

Panajachel (or Pana, as locals call it), is a nice, touristy town, with restaurants, bars, shops, with a very laid back mood.  You´ll love it!

It is quite touristic, but otherwise OK. There are many hotels and possibilities to arrange a boat trip across the Atitlán lake. Probably the best (and easiest accessible) place to stay in the area.

I was there many years ago (around 20 years ago) and I loved it. A really beautiful place. I do not know the way it looks now, I hope it is exactly as it did then.

Panajachel is a very beautiful place, with perfect climate, and very friendly indigenous people, possibly the lowest crime rate in Guatemala. It has quite a few tourist in January and February.Check out the <a href='"http://www.atitlan.net">Lake Atitlan</a>website.
