  1. I suppose you refer to U.S. citizens......

U.S. citizens or citizens of any other country are not targets in Panama and chances of being caught up in an unsafe situation are slim.  However, you must use common sense and try to keep a low profile, just as you should in any other part of the world.

Panama City is actually a very safe city in general, but it sure has its spots where you shouldn't visit.  However, where tourist related activity occurs you will be very safe.

It is common to see a white guy so come on over withouth worries.

  2. Panamanians actually like U.S. citizens, and if you say you know some Panamanians in the U.S. they will ask if they are relatives or known to you.  Expect a lot of curiosity especially if you are "white".   Most Panamanians will treat you well and as long as you stay on busy streets you will be fine.  Enjoy!

  3. Panama is the safest country I've been to in Central America.

I go out to a gringo bar and walk home at two in the morning and never have a problem.  I've lived here for two years and walk everywhere and have never had one problem.

There are bad neighborhoods, just like anywhere else on earth, but for the most part Panama is a very safe place for Americans.
