Is Papua New Guinea part of the Australian continent?

I mean, does the Australian continent only have one country (which is Australia)? Or is Papua New Guinea part of it?

Australia is one continent. Many times people refer to the area of papua new guinea and australia as Oceania. Papua new guinea is part of the south pacific.

papua new guinea is the biggest island in the south pacific and 2nd biggest island in the world.

Papua new guinea should not be referred to as being part of australia. Papua new guinea became an independent nation over 30 years ago.

Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) are very separate countries. PNG is a small island nation north of Australia. I t was given independence in September 16th 1975 by the Australian government when PNG was part of Australia.

It is not part of continent, but is considered to be in the area of the south Asian subcontinent, and in the island-full region of Southeast Asia.

It is NOT considered part of Australia - I am an Aussie, so I speak from experience. It is more affiliated with Asia.
