Is Percale sheets too expensive or bad?

I like percale. It's not too expensive.  The best way to test sheets though is to run your fingers over them in both directions.  You want sheets that feel smooth vertically & horizontally.  I've found great sheets at Bed, Bath & Beyond & Ross.
