I am a vegetarien and have been since I was 5, I always thought Peta was good. They only euthanized animals when they were in pure agony. But from what I have seen people say here I have been wrong. Have I been wrong to support MOST of their actions?

  1. Peta is a magnet for nuts. I can't stand them.

  2. PETA is FOR animals and animal liberation and does something about it.  Anti-PETA people sit on their butts all day and whine and do nothing good for the world.  You decide.

  3. They are pretty extreme when it comes to their protests, which turns many people off. But I like their videos like meet your meat.

  4. No, you have not been wrong.

I, too, am a supporter of Peta, and probably always will be. I think that it is wrong to do that to animals. I know that sometimes they might over do it, but I honestly think that they are doing the right thing. They are showing what we humans do to the other creatures that live on this planet, and it's wrong.

  5. Yes your are wrong to support PETA, they are ideological terrorists who destroy and vandalize the property of anyone who disagree with them.

  6. This is a matter of opinion.

I personally don't like Peta. I do love animals and am a vegan and whatnot, but Peta is a too crazy for me. They burned the houses of some scientists in california. Inside one of the houses was the wife and kids of the scientist.

But of course, you believe what you want. Don't let anybody discourage you from what you think.

    EDIT:

and also, they have some ridiculous rules.

My least favorite is the one where you CAN'T own pets.

  7. Peta has nothing to do with the vegetarian diet so you are going to catch some flack for asking that here.

Peta is bad. End of story.

I have been rescuing dogs for years and we have never euthanized any that weren't utterly necessary.

Peta euthanizes almost everything they come into contact with. Rarely will more than 3% of the animals they come into contact with survive more than a short period of time.

Google their euthanization records. Living proof.

  8. Yes it's wrong. PETA and animal rights is like Al Qaida and Islam.

PETA of old was good. PETA today is not about animal rights but about boosting the ego of its goddess Ingrid Newkirk. And about money. You can be a butcher killing 100 animals a day, torturing each one but if you pay your membership dues, PETA will still consider you a member of "good standing". They lie, spread misinformation and support violent acts. These are all documented. In fact, they set up a "help fund" for a convicted arsonist, Rodney Coronado. $45,000 of your donated money went to a convict.  Did you want that? Did they even tell you?

As you can see, PETA is a much reviled organization. Despite their heavy media campaigns, they only have 779,000 members WORLDWIDE!  Hating and condemning PETA is something that vegetarians/animal rights activists and meat eaters always agree on.

By the way, the person who told you to join Animal LIberation Front has just suggested that you join a criminal organization. Animal Liberation Front or A.L.F. has been tagged by the FBI as a domestic terrorist group. Together with ELF, they have been credited with committing more than 600 criminal acts since 1996. The arsonist that PETA supported is a member of ALF.  PETA lends logistical, financial and legal support to ALF. You

  9. There's nothing wrong with supporting PETA. PETA has achieved many amazing victories for animals. Stores like Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Wet Seal have stopped selling fur thanks to PETA's campaigns. Cosmetics companies like Revlon have stopped testing on animals. Half of the KFCs in Canada will now offer a vegetarian "chicken" option after PETA's relentless campaign against KFC. PETA has spayed and neutered thousands upon thousands of animals through its mobile spay and neuter clinic. I could go on and on...

Don't worry about what the anti-animal rights people say about PETA. Of course the meat industry is worried about the progress that organizations like PETA are making, and they want to try to twist the facts to turn people against PETA. For instance, a group that represents meat companies is making ridiculous claims about PETA's euthanasia rate compared to shelters. This group conveniently leaves out the fact that PETA isn't an animal shelter. PETA refers adoptable animals to the local shelters. The animals PETA deals with can't be adopted because they are very injured, diseased, or too aggressive, so of course PETA's euthanasia rate is higher than regular shelters.

Thanks for supporting animal rights and keep up the good fight!

  10. in my opinion, there is no good and bad, only opinions. if you feel that what you are fighting for is right, then i applaud you, but if you feel that you support something different, support it, dont fight for something you dont believe in.  you wont ever be right or wrong, the only wrong is to do something that doesnt make you happy.

  11. Their intentions are good, however it's their extreme publicity stunts that seem to rub a lot of people the wrong way.  Personally, I prefer to support the WWF and my local humane society by donating money and adopting, not buying, pets.

  12. PETA is, for the most part, good. Here is the reason surrounding the controversy of whether or not PETA is bad vs. good: PETA is at the forefront of animal rights so it is in the spotlight. Business people in the meat industry have lost money because their business dealings have been exposed, causing them to change their practices, untimately causing them to spend additional money to modify their practices. Take for example, the subject of downer cows, in which cows too sick to stand are pushed & pulled by their limbs, & picked up by forklifts (often stabbing them in the process) to unload them on to trucks headed to the slaughterhouse. One reason PETA is called "extreme" is because some animal rights activists have tresspassed onto private property with hidden cameras & presented the world the evidence of this mistreatment. THIS is when people in the meat packing industry claim "enough is enough," & "how dare we be filmed without our consent," etc. PETA was once again called "extreme." People from PETA & other animal rights orgs have exposed other atrocities, like animals being treated horribly & not properly anesthetized during medical experiments, chickens crammed in battery cages...the list goes on. The bottom line is that if someone did not tresspass & video these occurances, no one would ever know. People also condemn Ingrid Newkirk (head of PETA) for her beleif that we should treat animals as we would our fellow humans. This view enrages those who do not want to spend money to (for example) find ways to test new drugs without using animals, or shell out big bucks to provide adequate room for pigs to turn around. PETAs goals are mistated by those who feel that since they are at the top of the food chain, they have been given a gift from God, for the sole purpose of achieving human comfort. PETA wants to reduce, & one day illiminate, the use of animals in medical experiments with the replacement of other techniques, such as stem cell research (& this does not necessarily mean embryonic stem cells). However, PETA has been swiftly crucified & labeled as a terrorist organization who wants babies to die because they are against experimenting on animals to save them. PETA simply says, let's find another means to save them. We have the technology. We just need to have the willingness to shell out the extra money & realize that an animal is worth more than what we give them credit for. I mean, if they were simply put here to be exploited, then why do they feel fear & pain, show effection, etc? Wouldn't they just be plants?

  13. I'm going to put this really simply because I could go on for a long time, but that would interrupt my lunch plans (yummy baked tofu)!

Good ideas, bad plans of action. Good cause, bad ways to change things. Good intentions, bad representation publicly.

They have some helpful resources on their websites, but the way they convey their message is sometimes ridiculous.

  14. you know those anti-abotionists that bomb abortion clinics? that is what peta is like. so extreme it's ridiculous.

  15. Its BAD!

PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified “domestic terrorist” group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that “blowing stuff up and smashing windows” is “a great way to bring about animal liberation.”

PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents. One piece of kid-targeted PETA literature tells small children: “Your Mommy Kills Animals!” PETA brags that its messages reach over 2 million children every year, including thousands reached by e-mail without the permission of their parents. One PETA vice president told the Fox News Channel’s audience: “Our campaigns are always geared towards children, and they always will be.”

PETA has used a related organization, the PETA Foundation, to fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information. PCRM's president also serves as president of the PETA Foundation.

PETA runs campaigns seemingly calculated to offend religious believers. One entire PETA website is devoted to the claim-despite ample evidence to the contrary-that Jesus Christ was a vegetarian. PETA holds protests at houses of worship, even suing one church that tried to protect its members from Sunday-morning harassment. Its billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs “died for their sins.” PETA insists, contrary to centuries of rabbinical teaching, that the Jewish ritual of kosher slaughter shouldn't be allowed. And its infamous “Holocaust on Your Plate” campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of n**i genocide with farm animals.

PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.”

  16. They are trying to help animals and fight for their rights. What is wrong with that? Because their main priority isn't helping humans, that makes them evil? Just shut the **** up haters. If you really cared about people in need so much, you would get off your asses and help, not criticize Peta on their actions.

  17. everyone is different and everyone has their own beliefs. there is nothing wrong with supporting PETA if you choose to.

  18. I guess it depends on your point of view & how you interpret their actions. I used to be a member of PETA but they are too extreme for me. I mean...encouraging beer drinking in lieu of milk? silly. Just research where they stand & compare with your views...it's a decision you'll have to make for yourself.

  19. they are against people owning pets and euthanize housepets

they lie to get people to join their cult

they bomb and commit arson to get their points across

they spy on the people who work for him

  20. I think there is good and bad in all organisations but if you don't agree with PETA's polices which can, at times, be extreme then there are plenty of other animal charities out there. I do support PETA however I am more involved with the charities listed below.

Why not try RSPCA, Animal Liberation Front, BUAV, your local animal rights organisation, Dogs Trust, Blue Cross, Cats Protection League, Redwings, The Donkey Sanctuary or WWF. There are so many others that need our help and support, not just PETA.

The people who are vegetarians for reasons other than animal cruelty will tell you that you are wrong to support PETA, or any other animal protection group, because they either have no idea or care about them. They will also tell you that all animal rights activities end in violence and that is not true. People love to make us all look bad.

For every BAD PRESS you see about animal rights organisations I could list here FIFTY EXCELLENT things we have achieved. But wait, no one wants to hear about the good things do they.

  21. if peta was good..   there would have been a noticable effort by now.

    they're corrupt like all organisations.

    and yes i'm a vegetarian...

  22. PETA kills pets. In 2006 they took 3,061 pets from animal shelters and they killed 97% of them rather than putting them up for adoption. Two PETA employees were caught dumping pets in a dumpster behind a grocery store (see news link below).
