  1. I didn't read all of this but this link might help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaerobic_e...

  2. Everything is aerobic as long as you're breathing to do it.  Things become anaerobic when you're out of air and grasping for breath.

  3. Good aerobic veers towards wider bodily movement. This includes running, cycling, jogging etc. This burns calories. It gets rid of excess calories.

Good anaerobic veers towards weight training and smaller movements focussing on a few muscle groups. This bulks up muscle. It gets rid of excess calories for the future.

Pilates is a fusion of the two. It has other benefits including increased flex.

  4. I believe Pilates would be considered aerobic because aerobic exercise is associated with longer workouts of lower intensity, versus a short but intense workout (like a sprint).

You have to define what you mean by "effective." What are your goals? Losing weight? Building muscle?

  5. Well yes scientifically yes, but it is not classed as because it requires a minimum amount of energy.

Anaerobic as long as the intensity and duration in low,

'Anaer'obic means (without) air during cellular respiration

'AIR'obic means (with) air. as pilates it low intensity your body does not require o2 when producing ATP (bodys energy unit).

When the intensity increases your body can not produce enought ATP through (ATP-Pcr system) one of the body's Energy process. so the body will start burning carbs (gylcolytic system process) for energy this can be achived without o2 as well, but when o2 is present then this system can produce a lot more ATP this system is known as the oxidative system.

  6. Yes, definitely.
