  1. The answer seems to be inconclusive among vets/bird specialists.

Many think that the litter varieties of cage liner are breeding grounds for mites and other insects, as well as a place for food and droppings to fester and produce harmful air for the bird/s to breathe.

I would venture to say that this option is "okay," but only as long as you change it on a regular basis. Every three days or so, a week at the very most. The only problem is, this can be quite expensive!

It would be easier, and FAR cheaper, to collect newspaper and use this. (Even if you don't subscribe to your local paper, you can find free weekly papers or penny savers where you live.)

Another great advantage to using newspaper is that it enables you to better monitor your bird's droppings--something that should be done everyday to ensure his/her health!

Good luck making a decision! Remember, it should be one that works best for you AND your bird, and the safety and health of the both of you!

  2. Its ok for birds! My aunt asked her vet! He said it was fine! If your worried use shredded newspapers though
