Is Portobello Road with its Saturday market something teens would enjoy?

We know the song from Mary Poppins and I saw nice antiques there 30 years ago. Is it worth a visit if you only have 2 and 1/2 days in London and one day will be spent out of the city?

  1. Definitely! The bottom end is full of funky clothes and jewllery - towards ladbroke grove side, there's some really nice stalls with independent designers selling their clothes. You can get a nice lunch their - they have lovely food markets - teens will enjoy the fudge and sweets!!

I think it'll be a lovely day out!

  2. I would say it probably doesn't hold a huge amount of interest for teens.

The market has three distinct sections. At the Notting Hill Gate end, it specialises in antiques, some of which are pretty expensive..

The middle part of the market is mainly fruit and vegetable stalls, catering to the local population.

At the Ladbroke Grove end of the market there are numerous small stalls selling clothes, bric-a -brac, and arts and crafts. This is the part that would probably interest teenagers the most.

The best teen market would be Camden, on a Sunday.

  3. I would definitely go. I love the market and there is tons of stuff that teens can get there to being home for pretty cheap...clothes, jewelry, london trinkets, scarves, its fantastic. Get up early on saturday and start your morning there, before moving on to other attractions in the area such as Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, etc...You will not be able to see everything in such a short amount of time anyways so I suggest picking things that are unique and special and Portobello road is definitely a great start!
