I am an African American wanting to petition membership into an AF&AM lodge near my University. If accepted and made a master mason will I have trouble "communicating" with Prince Hall masons as many of my family members and friends are Prince Hall masons.

  1. its all in the mortar!

  2. It depends on where you live... your ability to attend other Masonic bodies and/or interact Masonically with other members of the Craft could be hindered either way.

What I mean is, not every traditional Grand Lodge recognizes Prince Hall Masonry and not every Prince Hall Lodge is in amity with every traditional Grand Lodge.

The AF&AM Lodge near your school should be willing to talk with you about this issue and let you know how things operate both where your home is and where your school is. If both groups recognize each other then it wouldn't matter what you belonged to.

Please let me know if I can help further.
