She was sixty-eight years old.At the time of her death,Frances Shand Kydd was a virtual recluse,never leaving her home on the Scottish coastal Isle of Seil.Her faith sustained her throughout her illness;she had converted to Catholicism in 1994.Before she became too frail to travel,she had been recognized in Oban (Scotland)for her personal involvement in many local charities,driving long distances to comfort families who suffered from misfortune. She even traveled to see the family of Henri Paul, the chauffeur of the car  in which Diana died,and embraced his parents,saying that they had suffered "the sorest ache of all."

    She included William and Harry in her will,leaving them about one-quarter of $4 million dollars.
