If so, why is it not featured as a sub-topic here on Yahoo! Answers?

If not, why is it not considered to be an art form?

Read thoroughly, of course...

  1. Art refers to a diverse range of human activities and artifacts.  It can also be applied to forms of art that stimulate the other senses, such as music, an auditory art.

Generally art is a (product of) human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind; by transmitting emotions and/or ideas. Beyond this description, there is no general agreed-upon definition of art.

The interesting thing is that what constitutes "art" for one individual may not do so for another.   A picture may be art to you and just a bunch of gibberish to me.  Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy that considers art.

  2. Those are like editorials.  They are "think pieces".

I have a book by Sir Alec Guiness and it contains many of his two or three page pieces that ponder different subjects.

It is definitely an art form that goes from the sublimely beautiful to the absurdly funny like Dave Barry.

It is really an editorial piece of work as you are generally commenting on your thoughts on one subject.

Is this more in line with what you are thinking?
