Question:

Is Puerto Rico part of the USA?

Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA, and Puerto Ricans are US citizens with full right to abode in the US, so, does that mean that if you're in Puerto Rico, you are in the US? Or does it mean you're in an international area outside the US that is a territory of the US, but not actually in the US?

It's a weird concept, when you're in Puerto Rico, do you consider yourself to be in America?

Thanks

  1. Think of it this way...all of the states were territories before they became states except the original 13 colonies.      When you go to Puerto Rico, you do not need a passport, because you are not leaving U.S. soil.

  2. Puerto Rico is a common wealth of the US...u are in a part of the US when on Puerto Rico

  3. you better!!!

  4. yeah, its complicated.. we are americans and part of the US (in US territory)

  5. If you are in Puerto Rico, you are on US soil. They can not vote, but they can collect welfare.

  6. Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States since 1898.

Because the island is named "The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico", some people have the impression that this means "Free Association", which is completely wrong.
