Question:

Is R.S. Andrews Home Protection Insurance a rip-off?

We signed a contract with them and four days after it went in to effect our central air conditioner bit the dust. They refuse to pay claiming the unit was old and wasn't working before the contract was in place. That is not true. What can I do?

  1. I am not familiar with this company or really, this type of insurance.  Have you read through the contract thoroughly?

I'd be curious to know how they "knew" the unit was old and non-functioning when you got the insurance.  Did they come out and inspect your home?  If they didn't inspect, how can they say they know it wasn't working.  If they did inspect, did they give you a copy of the report?

The best you can do is to keep after them for the claim.  Escalate the issue beyond whoever answers the phone there.  Don't be rude - just be firm - even if you can to keep repeating yourself.  You might also try the insurance commissioner where you live.  They might be of assistance.

    Good luck.

  2. I'm a realtor. I don't know of this company specifically but I do know that most home warranties begin coverage the day of signing and no inspection is necessary to warrant the home. Now, there is usually a deductible but has nothing to do with the age or condition of the repaired item. You might try to check out a company like Old Repulic Home Warranty or Prestige Home warranty and compare yours to theirs for some guidelines so that you can compare an argument. They usually all offer the same services. good luck
