  1. I think rap in mainstream media has totally killed the true meaning of good rap. think about the stupid neo-cons who endorse these rap deals. they like to perpetuate stereotypes and racism, and people like Meagan, tend to be those who are in these positions.. hopefully, this will end soon.

    Rap is an expressive artform.

  2. Absolutely. Look what its done to society at large in the last 15 years. It has gone much past a musical genre into fashion, attitude, behaivior, commercials for kool-aid.  It teaches kids its OK to be disrespectful to women (or anyone).

  3. Honestly I think some rap is..... when you are making drugs and s*x and violence look good and fun, well everyone wants to have fun!!!

  4. Only if they remove the dials off the radio.

  5. Is society harmful to RAP. What is the healthy versus the unhealthy RAP. What is the identity of RAP and what are its enemies. The capital of bourgeois always kill the capital of other bourgeois. Does RAP have a bourgeois? Is this 'society' one bourgeois or many bourgeois interests in a demorcracy for the purpose of reciprocal peace, and does RAP threaten its integrity. If yes, then perhaps RAP is a threat to that society, but is this 'society' for the security and safety for all its members equally, or are capital lives expendable.

'(3) Any thwarting or possibility of thwarting of these basic human goals, or danger to the defenses which protect them, or to the conditions upon which they rest, is considered to be a psychological threat. With a few exceptions, all psychopathology may be partially traced to such threats. A basically thwarted man may actually be defined as a 'sick' man, if we wish. '

'I say all this in spite of the fact that there is a certain amount of sheer habituation which is also involved in any full discussion of frustration tolerance. For instance, it is likely that those persons who have been accustomed to relative starvation for a long time, are partially enabled thereby to withstand food deprivation. What sort of balance must be made between these two tendencies, of habituation on the one hand, and of past satisfaction breeding present frustration tolerance on the other hand, remains to be worked out by further research. Meanwhile we may assume that they are both operative, side by side, since they do not contradict each other, In respect to this phenomenon of increased frustration tolerance, it seems probable that the most important gratifications come in the first two years of life. That is to say, people who have been made secure and strong in the earliest years, tend to remain secure and strong thereafter in the face of whatever threatens. '

  6. yes if your not black....

  7. Todays new Rappers yes because all they talk about is Materialistic things that wont help you in life.

People like Ice Cube, Bun B, Kanye West, Common, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Jadakiss, T.I., Rick Ross, and Nas always talk about real life to help the young people of america but Rappers like Lil Wayne, Soulja Boi, and other materialistic rappers make the young people think its ok to do these things without hard work being involved and without showing them how to make it to the top without the use of drugs.

Rap today lacks messages, there are nothing but pointless punch-lines involved and that makes people think that music is nuthing but punch-lines, the lime light, and riches.

Old rap had SOUL and HEART....if you listen to Young Bucks: Slow your Roll song, you'll  see a sad story but a positive message.

BTW I havent heard a new song that Touched my heart since i heard Slow Your Roll

  8. Rap is varied.  Some messages are undoubtedly positive - it instilled in me a lifelong hatred of poverty and racism by communicating their ill-effects in a way I could understand. Some messages are undoubtedly negative. On balance, it probably has done more harm than good. But then again, let's face it, I wouldn't credit rock n roll ("the devil's music") with being a positive influence on our culture.

To credit rap with being the downfall of Western civilization is overstating the case. I think it is more significant how shallow ALL music (and news, and public discourse) has become since the American ruling class defeated the social activists of the 1960s and 1970s. I am extremely bored with rap nowadays - I used to review it, and now i just don't care about it - because much of what I hear on the radio is just too shallow.  Of course, there are many exceptions to my broad sweeping statement - Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine. And, of course, music is not even the primary reason behind the collapse of Western Civilization.

I must vehemently disagree with one argument that I saw in here - you went from saying "it's not so much what rap music says," it's that "it sucks!"  Arguing against rap on grounds of the content would have been a good argument if it had been backed up with facts/examples. Saying that "it sucks" is  a complete non-argument, and only reveals your personal preference. I am a whiteboy from Kansas, and I prefer rap to country - that is just my preference. A day filled with Garth Brooks, and I would probably shoot myself in the head.

  9. there is nothign wrong wit people experessing themselves but rap is becoming more and more redundant and insignificant to me. All rap is about money, s*x, cars, "ballin" and other irrelevant mess. yea its ok if they talk about it. But wats wrong with being realistic sometimes. Rap does not uplift the community (most rap at least) it just sounds good, its not challenging and nevertheless it helps u move ya feet. Music is supposed to inspire. Yet rap music degrades women and sometimes just sound plain old ignorant. now its not killing society but there are some young folks who do not have postitive role models and they look to these rappers as a ways to mold their life. unfortunately the image portrayed is never postite, this leads to more disrepect for authority as well as s*x, and trying to achive a lifestyle that is unrealistic and deviant.

  10. its creativity and freedom of speech, if u dont want to hear it than dont listen to it

  11. It's the most attention you can get with the least talent.

to schmogt: we all hear it if it's played through subwoofers. wear headphones, huh?

  12. it's creative but is harmful to the youth. They don't know what it means and they're saying it out loud...to other people.

  13. Rap is the downfall of western civilization. Not so much of what it says, but just because the whole genre SUCKS! If they really want to torture detainees at Gitmo, they should forgo the waterboarding and just play rap 24/7.
