If it is extraordinary, yes. However, it depends on HOW it is presented. In the real world, most people are NOT trained to recognize talent; they just simply know whether they like it or they don't.

Take American Idol for example. If contestants present themselves well, they will naturally win votes over. And some people can seriously lack talent but still be popular (too many to list out).

Also, networking can be important too. It will never hurt to be associated with some one important who can help you get opportunities to come in your way. Unfortunately, people can be vain & they buy words easily from those who are famous/important. Having a famous person who can act as your personal reference will be a huge huge plus.

In a nutshell, REAL talent will contribute a lot into getting you opportunities. HOWEVER, there are other factors that must be considered in gain recognition from others.
