  1. There are benifits to running aswell as bad things lol.

The prolonged impact on the knees can cause problems....after many years

sprints means lactic acid builds up and makes you stiff in the morning without sufficent cool down (a level pe student : ])

  2. Its true if you overwork yourself and don't wear compression shorts or something to hold you "up". And if you're too old.

  3. It depends on so many things.

Decreasing testosterone? Well I have to thank whoever that it does otherwise I would be exploding with the stuff! Not heard that one before and doubt running has an effect on it

Max speed damaging the heart? Well, not really, the heart is a muscle and every muscle needs a good work out to keep it in top for every now and again

And then you can look at the opposite... is NOT running (or exercising) bad for you. The decrease in fitness levels, and the increase in fatty deposits in the blood veins.... leading to a heart damaging heart attack. A high fat diet might also reduce testosterone levels.

So having had a look at both sides of the argument and I came to the conclusion that exercise is good if you enjoy it.

  4. I would keep jogging/running at under an hour and you will be cool. what youve heard is correct though... long-distance runners have lower testosterone levels than other types of competitors... your average cross-country runner definitely has less testosterone than your average strongman... but these dudes are competing at two different extremes of athletic competition

  5. No , all the stuff you heard is false propaganda by fat people who are too lazy to run at all.

  6. running is  healthy because it gets your haert pumping

  7. http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2007...

Talks of marathon running and says the correlation between the heart issues/stress has more to do with inadequate training and taking on something an undertrained person shouldn't.

So really, you could surmise that people who over strain their heart by taking on things before they are ready for them, might have issues. Consistent, realistic training is the way to go...

I haven't heard anything about testosterone and running. I know that a lack of excercise will decrease testosterone though.

  8. not sure, but one thing i can tell you is that running helps you get in shape ( i dropped several pounds after starting cross country), also, it improves your memory. it does!

  9. I haven't heard or read articles that states running is unhealthy. Running is a good exercise. But of course all of us have limitations. If your not fit enough to do long runs or sprints, maybe that's the time that it will harm you.

  10. Duh running is healthy. Okay, sometimes some ppl die in marathons, but things like dehydration and heat stroke are a problem...not the actual running.

(And in reference to putting "too much effort on the heart"--running is an excellent way of exercising the heart, so  it makes you less likely to have heart disease or a heart attack.

And like someone else said, compared to all the other things that can hurt you in the long run, you could certainly do worse than go running.

This sounds like someone's excuse to be a couch potato today ;)

  11. well I'm not really sure but my sources say that walking or fast walking is better for your body and your joints. and you build up more muscle because you never leave the ground like you do when you run.!!

    hop that answers your question!!!
