  1. I moved here over 4 years ago and LOVE IT!

I have started 3 businesses, all have done great.  There are many jobs out there too.  It really depends on what you are looking for.  The pay in certain fields is the same or better than many bigger cities (i.e. my brother-in-law will make the same as he makes in San Francisco, he is in computers).  Other fields may be less, but so is the cost of living generally.

Schools in Wake County are great!  They were ranked #1-3 in the nation in recent years.  They are having a bit of a time keeping up with the growth and have gone to year-round schools in many areas.

A few weeks ago Raleigh was named as #1 for housing market keeping up.  While there has been some decrease in sales, it is still better than the rest of the nation.

I personally love that we are 1 1/2 hours to the ocean (you can go for the day and sleep in your own bed) and a few hours to the mountains.  The Triangle has a lot to offer in the way of recreation.  There are a lot of parks, a few nice museums, theatre, some great restaurants, etc.  It is NOT NY!  There is not a never ending night life, like some are expecting.  But, that is what makes Raleigh great.  It has culture, atmosphere and still has great values.

  2. I lived in Raleigh for 11 years and loved it (wish I were still there).  Job market there is good, particularly in pharmaceuticals and the computer field.  Schools are pretty good compared to the rest of the state.  The housing market is tight, although recent pressures may have loosened it a bit.  I rented there.
