  4. It is an opportunity for hundreds of talent starved people to be recognised as talented and come into fame and money.

    At the end of the day they reflect the scociety they come from which helps then to support their life styles. I would call them the Taliban of free society.

  7. MUSIC is necessary for society. But sometimes it does get annoying listening to how much "money in the bank" the rapper has. So just that kind of rap really isn't.

  10. No musical form as such is "necessary" to society. Think about it. Society existed for thousands of years without rap. And it would continue to do so.

    I don't know if I consider rap an actual musical form, anymore than talking blues is actual music. It's rhythmic speech, no music required. It's closer to chanting, which goes way back to prehistory.

    French rap is used as a vehicle for social criticism much more than its American cousin, I find.
