WASHINGTON - Democrats are calling on a Republican congressman from Georgia to apologize for referring to Barack and Michelle Obama as "uppity," but the lawmaker stood by his comments and said he meant no offense.

Asked to clarify whether he intended to use the word, he said, "Yeah, uppity."

Instead, he referred to the dictionary definition of the word as describing someone who is haughty, snobbish or has inflated self-esteem.

"He stands by that characterization and thinks it accurately describes the Democratic nominee," said Brian Robinson, Westmoreland's spokesman

I agree with Rep. Westmoreland. We cannot allow these people to use the race card at every turn. We need to hold politicians accountable when they are arrogant and snobbish

  1. If he is going to say it, he should stand by it.

And the voters can recall him or vote his butt out of office, and they will stand by that.

He meant exactly what he said, and he should accept what comes from it.

  2. Repubs at their best!

He claims ignorance, yet was raised in the 1950's south?

  3. "uppity" may be a step down for this self promoted saviour.
