Is Robert Harvey too old to be playing AFL football?

He turns 37 in August. Another hamstring injury today - how many is that in the past couple of years.

Why is he still trying to compete with these young blokes when he is obviously past it - is it the money; the glory; the hero worship by the unintelligent & unwashed?

One wonders.

  1. Yes. He is now too old.

Regardless of what he has achieved he is putting himself in the position of being remembered as someone who played a year or two too long.

In time to come I will forget his glory days & remember him as someone running around, struggling to get a kick, & getting injured regularly.

  2. Agree with you on this one imawunda, him and Gehrig should go now, for the sake of the younger kids and their club. once the hammys go at the age of 37, they don't repair as quick and happen more frequently. Gehrig is just taking up room in the forward line.

  3. His time is past, he just can't keep up with these younger blokes. So he should let the younger guys come into the squad. He is still an all time legend.

  4. Yes.

He is registering for his Seniors Card with Centrelink, tomorrow.

  5. Yes.

He was too old two years ago.

  6. He's close to hanging up the boots.. I think its a premiership, St Kilda hasnt won it since 1966, a long time ago.. My dad wasnt even born then.. So yeh another hamstring is another four or so weeks, I think this season is the last one. St Kilda is playing reasonably well, so he's got a good chance.. Robert Harvey is a legend, the last few years of his career have been the best so far. This year seems to be the end to this brilliance, so I hope he finishes it off on a good note. Otherwise he'll turn out like Riccuto from Adelaide, though a great player, took up a place in last years semi which could have been used by a younger, fitter player. He got only 3 disposals in a shocker, cost them the game I believe. If he goes out this year, he'll always be remember as a true ambassador of the game.

  7. probably, but hey he's been a champion for the club and in the AFL and not the worst at st kilda, but yeah id say its time to hang up the boots.
