  1. Of course. The dude's the best player in the world. You don't get there without a great serve.

  2. they've been noticong it more recently, but yes it is. that short ball down the line never fails to amaze.

  3. No not underated, He is the best player to ever play the game, that alone means he is never underated.

  4. It's the most underrated part of his game. What he lacks in speed (compared with guys like Roddick) he more than makes it up with excellent placement. His serve can always get him out of trouble in the clutch. How do you think he can outace Roddick when they go head-to-head?

  5. A little but, I don't see Federer getting more aces, He is more so better with the close up shots.

  6. no

  7. What do you mean? Underrated by who?

I mean, i never recall anybody saying that Federer's serve is bad, it's just not the best in the world.. well, you have to admit, Roddick's the best in this department (even though he's really bad in others, especially compare to Federer).. if we looked back to non-active player, Sampras's serve i think is the greatest of all time (he even made aces with his second serve)...

But, IMO, Federer's serve is better than Nadal and Djokovic, his two nemesis.. or among the top 10 players, with exception of Roddick..

  8. I think your question has already been well answered by the above people. :)

Roger Federer seems to also be able to really serve huge and accurate bombs when he needs to.  Some examples include the second set tiebreak against Djokovic in the USOpen 2007 final.   Check it out when you have time.  He got all his 1st serves in there...and they were impossible for Djokovic to return.

And more recently, against Hewitt in Round 4 Wimbledon where he served very well to help save every single one of the breakpoints Lleyton had a sniff at.

Ljubicic has commented that Roger's second serve is his favourite.

So yes, I reckon his serve is underrated, probably because he has such an awesome all-round game anyway that we take it for granted.

  9. YES, not only his is serve unrated, but i also think his return-of-serve is also under-rated....

In his serve Federer seems to be able to get good placement also with alot of spin, especially kickserves out wide....If you watched the Wimbledon match of Hewitt vs Federer, he did this very well, outedging Hewitt. I believe it would of been a closer game if he could not of executed those serves.
