  1. Compared to...? But anyway, yes: is the most safe capital in Europe, especially as for violent crimes (every year 0.3 homicide every 100,000 inhabitants, compared to more than 5 in the US and 1.24 in overall Italy).

Just use your common sense like you're supposed to do everywhere.

  2. Yes it is. Just be willing to look self assured and just ignore the comments.....though a cattle prod is useful just in case

  3. ha ha ha ha!!!! When are you going sweetie? Find a friend. And even that is not safe! Italian men are hot blooded so it is a double threat ; you might get mugged or seduced..(would not say rape because they are so d**n gorgeous they don't have to rape you!!) If you were my sister I would tell you not to go if you don't know anybody there! But that is just me...

  4. Not in the evening time

  5. look that italy is one of the safest country in the world, the criminal rate is many times less than in USA

  6. no problem at all.  as in any city though, pay attention to what's going on around you.  it's fine to walk around even at night as there are plenty of people everywhere....so don't limit your schedule at all!!  have fun!!

  7. Hi!

I am an American gal and have been LIVING in Italy for the past 4 years! All I can say is that I have never felt so safe, ever! I even walk in small alley-ways at 10pm at night alone and NOTHING  has ever happened to me...northern Italy is more susceptible to violent crimes such as rapes, robberies etc Rome is totally harmless.  The only danger you will encounter are gypsies.  At Termini I wouldn't walk around alone after dark even though I do and nothing has even happened, and watch out on the metro, buses, in particular the 64 that goes to St.Peter's and is notorious because of the pick-pockets.  It is important to chose the right place to stay as well. Hotels in the center can be really pricey, but I know of a lot of B&B and apartments for rent that are more convenient a few steps from st.peter's and real cheap to stay at.  I also do group and private tours of rome at a FRACTION of the cost you will find here.  I also personalize tours so you tell me what you are most interested in seeing and I creat a tour for you.  I even have shopping tours combined with a historical tour (my personal fav.) I am American so there are no language barriers whatsoever and I do not just talk about monuments but offer all-around help...Anyways, I love my work so even if you are not interested in my tours I would be happy to help and offer any information I can.  I like helping my fellow Americans  abroad :) Feel free to contact me for any information or doubts you may have. (wine bars, B&B, hotels, tours, rental cars, transportation)

  9. I traveled from Aus to Rome alone - however I was meeting someone once I arrived there. I would not travel around the city alone as it Felt very unsafe !

  10. absolutely, but as in any big city be on the lookout.

particularily for the gypsies.  they use children to distract you as another is going in your bag

  11. yes it is I walk and ride the subways by my self and I dont even speak good Italian and I've never had a problem but make sure you watch your stuff so you dont get pick pocketed. Which can happen to anyone
