  1. yeah but watch out for gypsies

  2. I'm not exactly a world traveler, but I have been out of the country a few times and Rome is my favorite place I've visited so far.  Just beautiful!  So much to see and do.  You have to have at least a bit of history appreciation to enjoy it, I think.  I would definitely recommend you go there if you have a chance!

  3. Absolutely!  Rome is a magnificant city and well worth a visit.  But, it is also a large city an the metro and buses can be very crowded.

My wife, daughter, and I spent 17 days in Italy last May and June and loved it.  My daughter also spent the fall semester of her Junior year of college in Rome and loved that as well.

Below is a link to some pictures I took last year in Rome.  I would highly recommend visiting Rome and several other nearby cites such as Florence and Assisi as well.

  4. It is amazing!!  Every city has its beauties... so I wouldn't say that one is better than the other, but Rome does have a lot of historical stuff to see.  It's definately worth it!  Have a good trip!

  5. Yes, but briefly.

It is a magnificent city, with much to see and explore, but the crowds, the intensity, the speeding cars and vespas, the constant need to be aware of thievery, etc. takes its toll.

You will need a rest, so go to a small hill town.

  6. Rome is a beautiful romantic city, my personal favorite in south Europe. You can find really everything there:

beautiful historical monuments, best restaurants, nice warm people, great night life...I think it is the best place for falling in love. All that history moves me every time I go there. I went there about 10 times in my life...(I'm not Italian) and I wouldn't mind returning again and again. It is just magical....

  7. More than Florence, more than Venice, Rome is Italy's treasure trove, packed with masterpieces from more than two millennia of artistic achievement. It's here that a metropolis once bustled around the carved marble monuments of the Roman Forum, where centuries later Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) painted Christian history in the Sistine Chapel, where Gian Lorenzo Bernini's nymphs and naiads dance in their fountains, and where an empire of gold was worked into the crowns of centuries of rulers.

Today Rome's formidable legacy is upheld by its people, their history knit into the fabric of their everyday lives. Students walk dogs in the park that was once the mausoleum of the family of the emperor Augustus; Raphaelesque Madonnas line up for buses on busy corners; a priest in flowing robes walks through a medieval piazza talking on a cell phone. Modern Rome has one foot in the past, one in the present -- a delightful stance that allows you to have an espresso in a square designed by Bernini, then take the Metro back to your hotel room in a renovated Renaissance palace.

"When you first come here you assume that you must burrow about in ruins and prowl in museums to get back to the days of Numa Pompilius or Mark Antony," Maud Howe observes in her book Roma Beata. "It is not necessary; you only have to live, and the common happenings of daily life carry you back in turn to the Dark Ages, to the early Christians, even to prehistoric Rome."

  8. Definitely!! Rome is beautiful and there is so much to see and do.. and the people are great! If you have the opportunity GO!!! you wont regret it!

  9. Are you joking ????

    Romae caput mundi.

  10. Cryztal said it all. I'm 50% Italian. My father was born in Sicily but he was raised there. As a child, I remember doing so many fun things there. It is beautiful there. I love the Colliseum. Visit Rome. It's great. Gelatto and Pizza were my life. Now, it is the city of romance for me.

  12. ... Yes!!!I think Rome is one of the most beautiful city in the world!!!Rome is magic and you will love it!!!

  13. I didn't spend a whole lot of time in Rome, but I enjoyed it. It IS beautiful, with much to do with all the the art, history, etc, etc, etc! However, I enjoyed Florence much more. I felt safer there and wasn't constantly clutching my bag in worry over being pickpocketted (sp?). There were also fewer beggars and annoying street vendors shoving their merchandise in your face. There may be "less to do" in terms of sight seeing stuff perhaps, but with the countryside to close and also great public transportation, it would be very very easy to see everything you'd want to.

No matter what you pick you'll have a wonderful experience I'm sure! :)
