  2. No. They put the city 30 to 40 miles away because it was close to the river and to keep from people raiding the city.(people from boats)

    You can take a bus to Circeo or Sabaudia from  rome and  enjoy a beautiful beach

  8. No, but it's not too far to get to the nearest beach (Ostia for example). About 50 km I'd say.

  9. Ostia Lido (beach) is less than 20 miles from Rome.  Depending on  traffic on Via Cristofero Columbo it takes 30-40 minutes to drive or 30 minutes on the train.
